Our Legal Advice Service for the Protection of Animals has been established with the aim of informing the public about how to enforce the Act on the Protection of Animals, thus preventing and stopping animal cruelty. This initiative has been the first of its kind in Hun-gary. We may have had an Act on the Protection of Animals since 1998, however, in order to be able to achieve real improvement, we need to join forces and together ensure that it is being implemented.
We have been operating our free Legal Advice Service for ten years—an effort, which as of today has been unmatched in Hungary. Differences between organisations working towards the same goal are inevitable. Due to our legal perspective, we may see things slightly differently than other organisations. Unfortunately, civil society in Hungary is characterised by a lack of priorities and no clear statement of objectives being made. Hungarian animal protection organisations presently commit themselves to activities that had been in the focus of our attention for 20 years. What they do is a noble, selfless effort; however it does not go beyond fire fighting, instead of looking for real solutions. We finally need to eliminate hotbeds and achieve a fire-free zone.
In case you have any queries in relation to the Act on the Protection of Animals or if you want to file a complaint or report someone to local authorities because of animal cruelty but you do not know how to do it, you can ask for help from our attorneys. In comprehensive cases re-quiring more extensive legal assistance, they will not only answer your questions but also help you draft the necessary documents in order to be able to hold animal tormentors accountable.
We can also offer you assistance in relation to the following issues:
• regulations on the protection of animals and their enforcement
• the legal procedure by which animal tormentors can be held accountable
• authorities to which mistreatment of animals can be reported
