Education

The White Cross Animal Protection Society has established an extensive educational pro-gramme on the basis of the educational materials published by the Royal Society for the Pre-vention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
In the course of free lectures, we direct children’s attention to the importance of the protection of animals and nature as well as the culture of animal keeping, thus complementing the school curriculum, which unfortunately does not address these issues. Our foundation is committed to raising awareness of the importance of loving and safeguarding nature and our surroundings, as our future life largely depends on the ability to preserve the values of nature and on protecting, loving and respecting it. The conditions of animals can only be improved and the public attitude positively influenced if society is aware of both the challenges and their possible solutions. In order for next genera-tions to be environmentally conscious and keep animals in a responsible way, we need to educate them accordingly.
In order to reach these goals, we launched an educational programme which specifically ad-dresses children, raising their awareness of caring for and protecting animals.

The programme pursues several objectives:
• We are committed to helping children truly understand what great responsibility it is to keep pets animals and to care for them.
• We are committed to familiarising children with the challenges posed by stray animals living in our surroundings and help them find possible solutions themselves as well as realise how they can become active in this field.
• We are committed to making children understand that the protection of animals is a responsibility that we all share.

Our educational programme, launched in 1995, has reached several thousand children in Budapest and across the country. Unfortunately our resources are too restricted to send volunteers to every group to hold lectures on animal protection; however, thanks to an excellent cooperation with school teachers, our educational materials are incorporated into regular classes. We assist teachers not only by providing them with colourful and interesting workbooks, posters and playful activities but we also send them guides addressed specifically to them on how to convey the message of the programme to their pupils.
